California Public Utilities Commision (CPUC)The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is tasked with regulating California's privately-owned utilities which provide electricity, natural gas, water, and telecommunications services. In addition, the CPUC regulates household goods, passenger transportation companies (like limousine services) and rail crossing safety. During the California Electricity Crisis of 2000 and 2001 the PUC passed losses on to the ratepayers by nearly doubling retail electricity rates. 1 References |
