California Independent System Operator
The California Independent System Operator (CalISO) (website) is one of eight Independent System Operators (ISOs) or transmission operators that manage the electrical transmission system, or grid, in North America. The ISOs were set up by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to coordinate, control and monitor the operation of the electrical power system.
During the 2001 California Electricity Crisis CalISO sued five of the energy wholesalers for overcharges. 1
